Why Latin Americans?

It's a great question.. why Latin American cross-cultural workers? The peoples of Latin America possess unique qualities, gifting and values God Almighty has endowed them for reaching the last of the unreached and abandoned peoples of the world with the Gospel of Jesus. Here are eight reasons why Latin Americans are being used by God, and why we believe He wants our continued partnership going forward:
  1. God is calling the Latin American Church to send waves of laborers into the harvest fields in order to meet the spiritual hunger needs of countless millions. The good news is that there is willingness, openness and passion to obey His call in spite of tremendous costs and obstacles.
  2. The Latin American worldview is principally one based on community and dependence on others. These two realities alone open doors of opportunity among peoples who consider independence and individualism foreign ideas.
  3. Latin American peoples are homophilic, i.e. they share significant similarities to peoples of other cultures in many areas such as their likenesses in physiology, personality, kinesiology, oculesics, haptics, proxemics, chronemics, etc. Such cultural traits are extremely important when it comes to perceived intentions, level of trust, regard for credibility, degree of openness/closeness to new ideas, and loyalty.
  4. Furthermore, these homophilic tendencies can be seen in deep-seated values. Using the Mayers/Lingenfelter six-value Basic Values Continuum as a guideline one easily concludes Latin Americans to be much closer to the global-value-norm than Anglo Saxons. In general, Latin Americans tend to be: i) more Relational (Person) than Task-oriented; ii) more oriented to the human processes of an Event than keeping an eye to Time, deadlines or schedules; iii) more Holistic than Dichotomistic, i.e., viewing the world as an integrated whole with the need to consider many viewpoints, rather than segmented with black/white, wrong/right judgements; iv) more given to dealing with issues from a Non-crisis than Crisis Orientation, i.e., solutions are ad-hoc and decisions are made as they arise, rather than being given to preparation, prevention or planned procedures; v) more given to Ascribing Prestige to a person rather than their Achievement, i.e., the belief culture sets the parameters for social ranking (birth, class, economic status, etc) versus ranking being achieved through effort or accomplishment, and finally; vi) more inclined to view Vulnerability as a Weakness than a Strength, i.e., concealment, self-image protective measures,  avoidance of culpability, a refusal of criticism and vagueness to personal life are practiced over the admission of error and failure, an openness to criticism and the willingness to expose one's personal life. These six value-tendencies of Latin Americans make them far more able to identify with the global unengaged and unreached than their Anglo Saxon counterparts.
  5. Latin Americans in general know how to ‘pinch-a-penny,' i.e., making a lot out of a little, a stewardship consideration that will more than likely increase in importance in years to come.
  6. When it comes to learning whatever dialect of Arabic for work among Arabic-speaking Muslims native Spanish-speakers have an edge with their 2,000+ words of Arabic, as well as similar grammatical constructs in their native Castilian tongue.
  7. Missiologists conservatively estimate eighty percent of Latin America as charismatically oriented in their theology and practice. Such propensity foments empathy among millions today who are receiving visions, dreams and supernatural occurrences on account of divine visitation.
  8. Finally, these last four decades of Latin American mobilization have yielded notable promise for the finishing of the task of world evangelization. There has indeed been extraordinary fruit from Latin America in the reaching of the unengaged and unreached global peoples and we hope to see much more in the future [it is true, completing Jesus' Commission ought not be merely thought of as a task, but rather people being reached one-by-one with the powerful Gospel of Jesus and His Kingdom]. These seven reasons are why PLAN panta ta Ethne will continue to challenge, recruit, train and mobilize the Latin American Church to respond in obedience to the global call of God.
"We in PLAN panta ta Ethne are fond of saying, "If it happens that a Latin American cross-cultural "called one" is able to be sent and then established among an unengaged/unreached people it is more than likely there WILL be fruit for God's Kingdom, to His glory, by His grace and mercy."

How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?
